i am writing to you just to tell you how much i appreciate the warm welcome you extended to my colleague ms. jenny wilson when she visited your company last week.
the help and advice you gave her, and the introductions you arranged for her,
have resulted in a number of very useful meetings. i should like you to know how grateful i am for all you have done to make them possible.
i realized the value of time to a busy person like you, and this makes me all the more appreciative of the time you so generously gave her.

dear mr. seaton,
thank you very much for taking me with you on that splendid outing to london. it was the first timethat i had seen the tower or any of the other famous sights. if id gone alone, i couldnt have seen nearly as much, because i wouldnt have known my way about the weather wassplendid on that day, which i thought was rare. i still remember some people toldme that in britain there was weather and no climate. during the same day, it mightsnow in the morning, rain at noon, shine in the afternoon and be windy before thenight falls. so i think i was lucky.
i think the rivertrip was the best thing of all. london really came alive for me as we saw it fromthe thames during that wonderful journey down to greenwich. it was all tremendouslyexciting - a day that i shall never forget.
thank you forgiving me such a great birthday treat.
yours sincerely,
linda chen

dear mr./ms./mrs. wang,
today, on this special occasion of teachers’ day, i am writing to extend my greetings and express my gratitude to you.
you are the most caring, respected and admired person that i have ever known. i was lucky to have you as my first teacher when i began school. “do what you would like to be done by others.” that is what you taught me in my first lesson. your teaching has been a lighthouse for me since then. i would not be a versatile university student without your education. although i have not seen you for ages, i can picture you teaching us in the classroom. thank you for what you have taught me.
wish you a healthy and happy life, and a successful and fruitful career!
best regards,
li ming

dear professor sun,
i am writing to extend my gratitude to you—without your help i would not have been a postgraduate student of applied mechanics department of yale university.
last june, you helped me with no reservation when i applied for yale university. you wrote a recommendation letter for me to professor w, the dean of the department. you gave me instructions on how to fill the application forms and write the application letters. what?s more, you also taught me how to take care of myself and get along with others, which i believe are life?s great lessons.
your help enabled me to fulfill my dream to pursue my studies in a great university. in the following days i will remember what you have told me and work and study hard to be a capable, conscientious and responsible person.
yours truly,
li ming

dear dde,
i would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your very active participation in our recent conference in montreal on the “future of aviation”. the chairman and board members have also asked me to pass on their sincere appreciation for your efforts in supporting the institute in this important undertaking.
your skill in chairing the controversial panel on “the role of developing countries in the future of aviation management” was highly appreciated by those representing all sides of that extremely sensitive topic. as well, we have received numerous post-conference requests for the paper you delivered on “the critical issue of cooperation between airlines and airports”. it appears that you my have penned a best-seller with that one!
on both a professional and a personal level, i really appreciated the time that the two of us were able to spend together for fun and reflection during conference down times. i certainly learned a lot about the unique aspects of aviation operation in your part of the world (not to mention the things you taught me about the backhand on the squash court!)
we are currently hard at work producing the “compendium of conference proceedings” document, and we expect to be sending it out to all participants early in the new , thanks so much for your enthusiastic participation in our conference. i have no doubt that it would not have been the success that it was without your presence.
please keep in touch ,and drop in and visit us whenever you are in this part of the world.
yours sincerely
peter
